End of the Age / Latter Days

2:  The Abomination Spoken of by Daniel

Jesus told his disciples to note the time of the end by pointing to when Israel, the fig tree blossoms (Matthew 24:32). Miraculously Israel became a nation again in 1948! He also pointed to the abomination prophesied by Daniel. The abomination refers specifically to the last week of the 70 weeks discussed in this passage (Daniel 9:24-27). Note especially verse 27.

Daniel 9:27

27Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week;
But in the middle of the week He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering.
And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate,
Even until the consummation, which is determined, is poured out on the desolate."

The Antichrist will confirm a covenant of peace with Israel for one week, but in the middle of the week, he'll break it by bringing an abomination to be sacrificed in the temple. This is explained in the book of Revelation, to be considered later.

The prophet Daniel, (best known for his story of "Daniel in the Lion’s Den"), was also shown a vision by the angel Gabriel the Antichrist and his work in a previous chapter (Daniel 8:16-17; 23-26).

Daniel 8:16-17; 23-26

16And I heard a man‘s voice between the banks of the Ulai, who called, and said, "Gabriel, make this man understand the vision."
17So he came near where I stood, and when he came I was afraid and fell on my face; but he said to me, "Understand, son of man, that the vision refers to the time of the end."

23"And in the latter time of their kingdom, When the transgressors have reached their fullness, A king shall arise, Having fierce features, Who understands sinister schemes.
24His power shall be mighty, but not by his own power; He shall destroy fearfully, And shall prosper and thrive; He shall destroy the mighty, and also the holy people.
25"Through his cunning He shall cause deceit to prosper under his rule; And he shall exalt himself in his heart. He shall destroy many in their prosperity. He shall even rise against the Prince of princes; But he shall be broken without human means.
26"And the vision of the evenings and mornings Which was told is true; Therefore seal up the vision, For it refers to many days in the future."

We‘ll give more consideration to the subject of the Antichrist when we look at the book of Revelation.
